An Autumn Update
(Picture: WBC Summer 2023)
I must admit to being surprised that Autumn is here and that it is so long since our last update. The life of the Church remains busy. Below are a few things that have happened over the past few months.
Pastoral Vacancy
For those that don’t know, we are currently without a minister and actively seeking one, but with no success so far. We are grateful to our moderator Simon for his wise guidance and to the many guest preachers that have blessed us with their ministry; we consider ourselves fortunate to have them at our disposal.
Baptisms
We have had the joy of two Baptisms so far this year. One was a long time member of our congregation. The second was a gentleman who works at sea who had come to faith and wanted to be baptised while on shore leave.
Lunches.
The ‘soup and a roll’ lunches changed into ‘spud lunches’ (baked potato and a topping) and will continue to be available on Tuesdays, the meal is free, but donations are welcome.
Fundraising
Our knitting group have been raising money for the friends of Deal Hospital, mainly by sales of knitted goods..They plan to hand over all money raised this year during early next year. Once a month we have had visits from various Christian organisations and each time have taken up a collection for them to aid in their work. The Church supports work both in this country and abroad.
Social
Over the summer we had a strawberry tea and a barbecue. We did try to restart our Tabletop sales but this was not successful. However, there were enough people that enjoyed the chance to meet up so we are going be holding some gatherings for drinks and company. We also continue to hold occasional fun and games afternoons. Our weekly contact sheet is on the website and is the best way to find out about upcoming events.
Grounds and Garden
Walmer Town Council awarded us a Certificate of Excellence during their Walmer in Bloom event. Thanks to all who made it happen and who keep our grounds looking so splendid.
Thanks
We must not forget all the hard working people who keep the Church ‘ticking over,’ with all tasks done and looking nice, by donating their time. As I am here most days I am able to see people come and go doing various tasks, sometimes quite anonymously; God sees and knows.
