Our Moderator.
In December 2022 the Church called the Revd. Simon Roberton who kindly agreed to be our moderator. Simon writes about himself:
I was born at Ilford in Essex in 1960. I was raised in a Christian family and have attended church for as long as I can remember.
I found my faith during my teens and have been on that journey ever since. When I left school, I became a professional photographer of works of art. For the next 30 years, I travelled the world, my job taking me to such diverse locations as Argentina (just after the Falklands war), Iraq (just after the first Gulf War) and Windsor Castle the day before it when up in flames (nothing to do with me by the way).
I'm married to Julia we have three daughters and two granddaughters. In 2009 I was called to study theology at Spurgeon's College, graduating in 2012, after which I served at Christ Church in Stock Essex as pastor until November 2021.
After taking a year's leave of absence, I am now looking at training as a Spiritual Accompanier while continuing to moderate and mentor within the Baptist family.
If I have any spare time, I enjoy fly fishing and woodwork.
